Textile design is an art and under the umbrella of the design industry. If you asked me what textile design was all about a few years back I would have no idea what you were talking about. This isn’t because I didn’t have respect for textile design. It would have been that for some reason we assume that these amazing fabrics and designs come from machines or heaven and we leave it at that.
Truth is some of the most talented interior designers team up with some of the most amazing manufacturers throughout the world to produce what we end up using for our table cloths, curtains and the list goes on and on. These designs and textures even get developed into wall coverings. If you work in design or home decor you realize how vital textiles are to the industry.
From the silkworm to a pillowcase, textiles define how we design our home. Over the last few years I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the top textile manufactures and designers. The process from start to finish is amazing and so inspiring. Traveling the world to find the perfect color blended with that perfect texture. Not a bad trip if you can squeeze in a few cocktails and some great food.
The passion for textiles is something that I’ve never seen before and I love that. Maybe because textiles are the foundation of home decore and interior design. Ask any designer about textiles and they might not know where to start. The topic is subjective and ongoing. Opinions are many but all very interesting.
This weekend after watching the presidential debate I needed an escape. So I looked online for some of the top companies in textile manufacturing. The visuals with this post or some of this company that stood out to me. If I missed an amazing company please let me know because I’d love to check them out.
So here’s to an inspired week.
