The guest room is a funny space that is used (unless you’re posting it on craigslist) about 10% of the year. Therefore when it is used attention needs to be paid. I just had some guests stay over for the weekend and I gave that room tons of attention and it paid off. Here are a few ideas that I thought might help you get inspired to actually invite guests to spend the weekend.
Flowers Make a Statement
Let’s start with an easy one because flowers should be an obvious choice. The trick is not to go overboard. I like to break them up to tie in the room. I always go with flowers that add to the room’s decor and always know first hand my guests preferences. Not a bad way to say hello to a lovely weekend.
Always set aside some area in the room for bottled water. I always include sparkling as well just to add to the atmosphere. Then add some lovely glasses. Now if you want to step it up a notch you can create your own infused water.
Books & Magazines
Most people when traveling find it hard to sleep or take a few rest breaks in the bedroom. A nicely placed book or selection of magazines can be just the ticket. I always include a design book, a book on the area and then some recent magazines that have just came in the mail. Then maybe even add the local newspaper….well done!
More, More & More
Truth be told there are so many items you can add to the guest room but be careful. The end game is for the visit to be remembered so make sure the guest does not love the room so much that they never leave. Drawing people out with some nice fresh coffee or the smell of food is always the best way!
