‘Twas the night before Black Friday and all through the house,
Studios were burning the midnight oil, much to the chagrin of a spouse.
The artwork was laid in front of the open window to dry,
In hopes that they’d make money this season, and don’t have to cry.
OK, that’s not my best work, but here we are. On the eve of the great holiday season of 2018. How did that happen? Well, whether we want it or not, it’s here and it’s time to break out the decorations and make some merry. It’s also time to break out those credit cards and buy gifts that will mean a lot to your recipients this year!
What are you pining for? I for one have been enjoying dabbling in art and commingling with some amazing artists these past few months, so of course, art is on my mind! I’ve had a chance to collaborate with several talented artists on our “Art in Design” blog posts series and have become more aware of how important it is to choose tasteful art when designing our homes. Tastefully Inspired boasts the largest Facebook group for interior designers, artists, and much more which has been a wonderful way to connect with the artist community. If you are an artist or designer, we want to meet you – just click here to join our group and welcome to the biggest community on FB!
But today we’re talking about gifts!!! How much do you traditionally spend per gift recipient? Or are you a non-budgety type of person like me; when you see the perfect gift, you grab it!
Well, here is my take on some great ideas grouped into 2 sections; unique ideas and handmade goods.
For the person who has everything, finding a unique gift is critical! One way to circumvent the possibility of having the unique gadget you spent hours picking out just to end up on the shelf, is to buy an experience.
- Spa gift certificates – Most every human being on the planet could use a little tlc especially during this stressful time of year, so one of my favorite gifts is the gift of relaxation! Your local spa or massage/nail salon has gift certificates, so shop local and maybe even buy yourself a nice massage while you’re at it.
- Groupon – Many people have had less than ideal experiences with Groupon, however, it’s still my favorite go-to place for unique ideas. I’ve bought everything from tickets to Duran Duran to wine tasting, and I’m even eyeing up those “drive a Ferrari” packages where you can rent a Ferrari for a couple hours and get to drive those powerful horses on a modified race track. Sounds like a great gift idea to me! I could spend a whole blog post just on the awesome Groupons available.
- Artwork – Art consistently stands the test of time for me – it’s the epitomy of a unique gift! Art brings personality to the home like nothing else. So, why not purchase a beautiful piece of art and get a mini room makeover with one timeless piece of art?
Etsy is my go-to for handmade goods. As an Etsy shop owner myself, I value this community of artisans around the world, each working hard to bring their own, unique items to market. I try to support shop owners as often as I can and do my part to #shopsmall.
Everything from beautiful stationery and photographic prints, to broken china ornaments, jewelry and furniture can be found on Etsy.
Here are a few of my favorite finds from a quick shopping trip on Etsy today!
Other amazing handmade items I’ve found this week came from some of our very own group members:
