One of the joys of my life was being introduced to the Great Gatsby in high school. I followed it up with research on F. Scott Fitzgerald and segued into a little Ernest Hemingway. This might have been a little less of a love and more of an obsession. In fact I even studied the film at UCLA. I loved everything about the film and era. The decor, atmosphere and the elegance made such an impact on me.
Back on point I love that time period. The way people dressed really made a statement. Sorry but no flip-flops allowed. Reflective surfaces and geometric prints were all the rage. Elegant lighting fixtures were seen throughout. The couches were large and luxurious. The outdoor area was so large that setting up canvas tents for an evening party would be the normal environment.
Glamour is a must when trying to achieve this style of décor. Being larger than life and having every piece of decor tell its own story. From a martini glass to a drink cart the trick would be in the details. For me you can never go wrong if you focus on those details. Well there you have my Great Gatsby moment. May we all have at least one night as glorious as this.
