Tis’ the season for grilling and outdoor parties. With Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Graduations, and Father’s Day upon us, barbecues and fire pit lightings are bound to happen in your backyard. Is your outdoor space ready to take the heat?
As the days warm up, it is typical to want to take advantage of your outdoor living space, especially if you live in an area that gets harsh weather. Whether that means dining al fresco with friends or reading in solitude on a lounge chair, the focus moves from the interior of our homes to the exterior.
I will be the first to admit that I haven’t quite gotten my act together in this area, but we are changing our tune this year. My reluctance was partially due to the fact that I have a bit of the “all or nothing” personality trait (OK, I have a lot of it). Fortunately for me, my husband is on the other end of the spectrum, but a girl can have goals, can’t she?
Like indoor spaces, outdoor spaces look better when you thoughtfully plan them out. So I figured that we could all use a little inspiration to get our patios, decks, and backyards looking like we are ready to usher in those warm summer nights.
Honestly, who can resist a built-in banquette anywhere in the house? This outdoor banquette makes the maximum use of space and allows the homeowner to enjoy beautiful views out of that picturesque window. Not to mention the fact that the stone floors and hanging pendant are simply stunning.
Let’s just ignore the beautiful wicker furniture and drum table for a minute while we drool over the tilework behind the hood. This detail, along with the sconces, the greenery, and the blue color palette make this space a complete outdoor oasis.
Am I the only one who wants to jump on those extra large round chairs? Everything in this outdoor space screams comfort and relaxation. Plus, It doesn’t hurt that the designer used the world’s favorite color – blue.
From the orange welting on the sofa to the draperies, it is evident that every detail of this space was carefully thought out. I love that the designer was bold enough to use art in an outdoor space, especially in such a vibrant hue.
And this right here is the reason I can’t defeat my “all or nothing” issues! Who has not one, but two swinging sofas on his or her porch? Ahhh, I have no words to describe how beautiful and fun these must be on a hot summer day!
When purchasing outdoor furniture, please keep in mind that these pieces need to be protected from the elements. Many retailers make corresponding covers to protect their outdoor furniture from the rain and snow. In addition, exposing fabric seat covers or pillows to rain or snow can lead to moldy or mildew-ridden items. As with any investment in your home, protecting it will ensure that you can enjoy it for many years to come.
