I have always been in love with Charleston. Something about a warm summer night and a sense of elegance always makes me want to know how that would feel. After a few glasses of wine wanted to learn a bit more about what Charleston had to offer in the way of design.
One of the names I kept running across was Ginger Brewton. So I dug deeper and just fell in love with the way she blends modern into that old Charleston charm. Check out some of the images that made me smile ear to ear and long to buy a house in Charleston.

What manufacturer would you love to team up with and why? Oh wow! I love this question! I would love to team up with a lighting manufacturer. Lighting is something I have always had a passion for and played around with, and it is the jewel of the room. It can make such a statement.
Who is the designer that you admire and how have they influenced your design work? I have always been a big fan of Kelly Wearstler. She’s a SC girl so I love that and she does what no one else does. She creates these funky and uber creative environments. She’s out there and I love it.
What is a design tip you live by? Rules are made to be broken. Every space is different. I do have a pet peeve of art being hung to high or too low.
What makes you get out of bed in the morning? The fact that I have been blessed to work in an industry I love, and work for myself. How many people can say that? Even on a bad day, life is still very sweet and I am so thankful for that.
What is your favorite vacation spot and can you recommend a place to visit or stay there? Italy hands down. The food, the style, the people, the wine, the lifestyle. They know how to live life and enjoy life to the fullest with family and friends.
What happens in your initial meeting with a client? I get to know them and how they function or want to function in their home. Do they entertain, do they have children, do they like to cook, what colors do they dress in the most, is there a hotel or place they love? It tells me a lot about the person and how to make their new space function the best for them.
How do you communicate your vision to the client? I like to show vision sheets with the products, along with the actual fabrics and finishes for them to touch and feel. It’s about them being able to envision the space and feel the environment.
Describe what you like most about your home. I have a few family pieces I love, and those make it home for me – lamps from my grandmother, an antique chest, several art pieces I purchased with my mom, and my childhood bed. They are all sentimental pieces I cherish. And then there’s an art piece I purchased in my early 20’s at a garage sale for $5, and I love it.
How would you describe your sense of style? I love to mix modern, clean lines with a few traditional pieces. It’s a more transitional look that looks evolved over time. Elegant and comfortable with a little edge.
Do you have a favourite colour scheme? I personally love blues – every shade of blue. It can be so dramatic or so soft and soothing depending on what you’re going for. It also compliments many other colors – oranges, pinks, greens, purples.
