I have been writing for Tastefully Inspired for several months now. Many of you read our blogs every day and have really gotten to know us. You know that Mark’s one-year old daughter is his little assistant every time he goes shopping for furnishings; you know that Angela’s interior design idol is Kelly Hoppen; you know that Kathleen can make a recipe out of anything; and you know that I love to follow trends. The team at Tastefully Inspired really is like a little family. For instance, even though Mark lives on the West Coast and I live on the East Coast, we talk via phone a few times a week!
We also feel like we know you. We get so many inspiring comments from you. You encourage us. You keep us going. We continue to come up with interesting ideas and pour our heart out on WordPress day after day for you! Because we are passionate about interior design and because we want you to have the most amazing homes!
If you follow us, you clearly love design. You appreciate the way design makes you feel. You are energized by a space that is cohesive and inviting. So my question for you today is: Has our advice inspired you to personalize your home? Have you hired a designer or a decorator to make over your open concept living area? Or are you still making excuses like, “I will hire an interior designer when I buy a bigger house. I can’t decorate; I live in an apartment. I don’t know where to start. I don’t have time to go shopping for my home.”
There is a distinct difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator. Interior designers like Angela and myself are educated in the field of design. We understand colors and can push you beyond the limits of what you originally imagined for your home. We can manipulate the structure of your home; for instance we can take down walls to create an open concept living area. By comparison, interior decorators have a great eye for design and are often self-trained. Decorators cannot touch the structure of your home but both designers and decorators can deliver spaces you will love.
You deserve to have a safe and beautiful home right now, today. Some of you are working professionals; some of you are entrepreneurs; some of you are managing teams of people; and some of you are working from home. Whatever you do, you are working hard at it and it is tough to come home to a space you don’t absolutely love. It is even harder to be in a space like that if you work from home.
Let 2017 be the year when you stop contemplating, stop overthinking, stop complaining. Dare to make your home beautiful. If you can’t afford to hire Kelly Hoppen or Barbara Barry or Suzanne Kasler (whom we all love and respect), hire a well-respected local interior designer or interior decorator to make over your home. If you can’t afford to do it all at once, do it one room at a time. If the thought of hiring an interior designer is overwhelming, purchase an E-Design with a reputable company like Luxure Interior Design or Laurel & Wolf. Whatever you decide to do, do something that makes you happy to be in the space you live in.
As far as Tastefully Inspired goes, we will still be here helping you curate your spaces, showing you how to get a collected look. We will be here explaining how we decorate for the holidays and interviewing the best designers in the business. Mark will still make funny jokes, Angela will wow us with her United Kingdom trends, Kathleen will continue to teach us how to respect the Earth and I will be here educating you on the latest trends in the industry.
Next year let’s vow to have better homes, be better people, protect our Earth more and grow our team so that we can continue writing great content for you, our wonderful readers. We thank you for your trust and for allowing us into your homes each and every day.
From my heart to yours,
