It’s been hot here in New Jersey, like really hot! We’re talking, cooking eggs on the sidewalk hot! So, last weekend I headed to a pool party and donned my bathing suit for the first time in two years…(eh hem. Someone needs to get out more.) When it’s 100 degrees out with almost 100% humidity? I had absolutely no choice but to get over any self consciousness and dive right in.
The afternoon proved to be a wonderful time with friends and family and then having the fresh, cool water in the pool flow over my sweaty body, well, it was pretty close to nirvana. Oh yeah, and there was chilled rosé wine which absolutely helped release any leftover inhibitions I may have had.
What was even more fun though was getting to use my new beach towels from Enchante Home. Lightweight and airy, colorful and absorbent, these towels were the hit of the afternoon! I even had someone ask for one, which I begrudgingly gave up.
Now, I am not a fan of those heavy, terry beach towels with cheesy mermaids, sea horses, or sports teams on them so, I jumped at the chance to own these stylish, Turkish pestemal towels. If you don’t know what they are, here is how Wikipedia defines them.
“A peshtemal (also spelled peshtamal, pestamal or pestemal; from Turkish: peştamal) is a traditional Turkish towel used in Turkish baths. A staple of the Ottoman hamam culture, dating back hundreds of years, the pestemal was originally designed to help individual bathers maintain their privacy. Today, this light weight garment lends itself perfectly to quotidian use. In addition to being a wonderful bath towel due to its high absorbency, the pestemal dries faster than its thicker counterparts. It is also used to indicate which region people are from and is a part of a deep cultural tradition. There are many kinds of peshtemal, with different styles and colors in different areas of Turkey.
The peshtemal absorbs water as fast as a traditional towel, dries very quickly, takes up less space, is easy to carry and is therefore used as an alternative to the towel in bathrooms, pools, spas, beaches, sport facilities and for baby care. The peshtemal fabric is made of 100% cotton produced in manually operated looms in Turkey.”
Here is a brief description of my towels, The Miami, The Rainbow and the Capri:
