The dog days of summer are upon us and I find myself melting daily. Here in Miami, a swimming pool is just as necessary to a home as a garage or a bathroom. (Heck! I could forego the yard, just give me the swimming pool!). If you have a pool, sooner or later you’re going to have to face the inevitable and resurface it. Here are are some of your best options…
Get Plastered!
If your pool is bursting at the seams and you’re on the strictest of budgets, plaster is your best bet. It’s a lesser expensive option and, while it’s not particularly stunning, it’s pretty enough. Plaster comes in a variety of colors as well. Pool plaster, when done right, can last as long as 15-20 years. Maybe.
Get Aggregated!

Next up in price and aesthetics are the aggregate coatings. Aggregate finishes like Pebble Tec or Wet Edge, are a plaster combined with quartz or pebbles. While it’s considerably pricier than just plain old plaster, it’s a LOT more attractive and lasts a bit longer. The only downside to this choice is for the tenderfoot types. It can tend to be a little rough on the tootsies.
Get Tiled!

O.K., That subtitle isn’t as catchy as the rest, but a tiled pool is a timeless look AND it’s my favorite finish. Of course, it is also the priciest but that can be deferred by your choice of tile. Is Price no object? Well then, you should go with glass tile all around. The whole pool! You will have the prettiest swimming hole on your block for sure!

My Pool Tile
Is your budget healthy but not glass tile healthy? You can always go with ceramic tiles. In my own pool, I went with just mosaic sheets of 1 X 1 cobalt blue ceramic tile. It wasn’t as inexpensive as plaster or the aggregate finishes, but they should outlive me with little upkeep. And that’s a money saver in the long run.
So you have choices. Once you have weighed price vs desired aesthetics and function, you can’t really go wrong. Whatever you do, have a great summer and a great time in your beautiful new pool.
