As of late, I have been on the hunt for two matching bedside tables for my master bedroom. Since my bed has a rustic wood border, I was immediately attracted to the Marcella Mirrored Chest from Grandin Road – a sister company to the incredible Frontgate catalogue. Modestly priced at $349, I was hesitant to order the chest online because I was worried about the quality of this piece.
Of course, I should have known better than to doubt anything that Frontgate has a hand in. I recently visited their newly opened outlet store in Charlotte and the first thing I was greeted by was the Marcella Mirrored Chest. Even more stunning in person than online, the sides and front of the chest are entirely mirrored except for a completely wooden outline. Trimmed in a grayish brown rustic wood, I was immediately taken by the juxtaposition of glam against rustic. With three sizable drawers, I was left wishing I had ordered the Marcella chest right on the spot.
Even though the chest is as perfect as perfect gets, two things prevented me from pulling the trigger on this purchase. While the chest is generously sized at 34” wide, it is just a hair too wide for the space I am putting it in. In design, every inch counts and I know that butting up two end tables right on my bed will create a hassle when I am trying to make up my bed. The second reason has to do with depth. At only 16” deep, my lamps would completely overtake the chest. Designers really do scrutinize every little thing.
If you are in search of a well-priced and stunning nightstand, this chest is a total winner. Just be certain that the measurements work for the space you are putting them in.
A piece of furniture that rates an “mmm” on the chic meter is our Marcella Chest. The mirrored surfaces add a touch of fun and glam decadence to the classic lines of this three-drawer chest. The mirroring isn’t just a look, though; it’s there to reflect light, too, which adds a sense of space to your rooms (particularly useful in creating the feeling of a little more dimension in smaller rooms). Hardwood frame with modified turned-bun, distressed-finish legs convey a sculpted feeling, a little vintage and a little modern, the worlds sleekly combined.
