During these next few Wednesdays I want to look at some of the best boutique hotels in the United States. The concept of a boutique hotel is all in the details. A boutique hotel can deliver an experience that even a luxury hotel cannot match if done right. In a boutique hotel you minimize the rooms and you maximize the experience. Your room becomes the canvas and your focus needs to be precise. For me, whenever I travel I like to go to a boutique hotel. The staff seems to be a little bit more accommodating and the atmosphere is always unique.
The Mansion on Forsyth Park located in Savannah’s Historical District s the boutique hotel that I will be discussing today. As I stated in Tuesday’s post, Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States if not the world. This boutique hotel is owned by the Marriott, but don’t let that fool you. This is a 100% boutique hotel and vibrantly displays Savannah’s history and love for design. Without sounding too much like a travel advisor ad, it’s pretty cool that it only has 125 rooms. Each one of these rooms has details and is very reminiscent of Savannah’s rich history and culture. Don’t worry we’re going to get to the design in just a second. But I wanted to give you a little background as to why this boutique hotel even exists. The autograph collection by Marriott is a separate chain of select hotels in the luxury boutique category. These hotels have very high standards and reflect the elegance and design styles of various cities in districts. So basically if you want the amenities of a high-end luxury hotel, but want to get a feel for the city you’re in, these hotels are where you should stay.
The Mansion on Forsyth Park was the first hotel shows in to the “Autograph Series”. When you walk through the doors it may confuse you a bit. Most people have not experienced a luxury boutique hotel. This hotel specifically has detailed high ceilings with history rich wooden floors. In fact, the hotel seems like a work of art. While walking around the hotel you’ll see sculptures, jewelry, ceramic pieces and paintings throughout the property. Basically the entire hotel is a gallery, but it gets better. Most everything you see is for sale by local and international artists. I bet you the Louvre doesn’t allow people to stay overnight! It doesn’t get better than to stay in a historically restored mansion and right outside your front door is your own personal art gallery.
Getting back to the hotel with all that Southern charm. The rich colors and textures can make any designer feel inspired. When you work in design, you need to be inspired on a daily basis. I wonder how many designers use this mansion as her muse while drinking their mint juleps and walking around the grounds of this amazing 24 acre historical park. I bet after staying in this hotel the idea of opening up a boutique interior design and antiques shop will cross your mind.
Below I have selected some of the visuals for today’s post. For me these images inspire and deliver that Savannah spirit. A time when everything was elegant and refined … No flip flops allowed. Trust me I love my shorts but there’s something about dressing up to the nines, drinking a nice glass of champagne and having a refined conversation. I hope you enjoyed the blog and get to visit this gem in the near future. If you do, send photos my way and I’ll make sure to post them.
