Shopping. Is there a woman out there who doesn’t love to shop? Wait, I take that back since I have several friends who don’t which I can’t understand, but that’s ok. I just got back from my first visit to the Mall of America. Now, I know the Midwest might not be the most exotic or fancy place to travel to, but SHOPPING! Need I say more? And they don’t make malls like that where I live.
The Mall of America is the largest mall in the United States – home to 520 stores, 50 restaurants and a full amusement park. Let’s say, this isn’t just another mall. I was able to shop at high end stores, drink fine wine and still watch little kids giggling on the Bubble Guppy’s Guppy Bubbler (say that 5 times fast) ride all in one spot.
One thing I really liked (other than the fine wine) was the wide variety of shops I’ve never even heard of. You can get everything from candy bento boxes and cheese shaped like the state of Minnesota to champagne scented candles (yes I bought one) and $1500 Coach bags (no, I did not buy one).
I dare you to think of something you can’t find there. Did I mention you can also get your navel pierced while waiting for your watch to be repaired? Or better yet, get an hour long foot massage and then hit the stores or go for another round on the zip line.
We enjoyed a leisurely dinner at the Oak and Cedar restaurant which features a wonderful wine and cocktail list and outstanding locally sourced food.
I had a handcrafted grapefruit gin concoction that I could write about for weeks.
We also shopped until our feet were throbbing and wallets were begging for mercy.
So if you’re ever in the area, you have to check out the Mall of America. Conveniently located near the Minneapolis St. Paul airport, it’s a great place to enjoy year-round and the people watching was half the fun.
