If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times – paint is the most inexpensive way to transform a room. And while that saying is actually very true, we often as homeowners or designers get stuck in a rut. Yes we may put a daring color on the walls or a bold color on the ceiling … heck we may even go as far as to put an unexpected hue on an accent wall, but that’s where our journey with paint ends.
I will never forget watching an episode of Season 8 HGTV Design Star when designers Tiffany Brooks and Brooks Atwood created a unique wall with graduated stripes. This dream duo impressed the judges so much that they won that particular challenge. In fact, Brooks Atwood ended up being the 1st runner up in the season finale, while Tiffany Brooks went on to win the whole kit and caboodle.
So obviously so much more can be done with paint than we sometimes have the guts to do. From stripes to stencils, we can make a space come alive with just a few cans of contrast paint. With zillions of paint colors and dozens of paint companies we literally have our pick of the lot when it comes to paint.
Since we are always trying to find creative ways to separate ourselves from the pack, I am here today to deliver a challenge; let’s call it the “Crazy Pants Paint Challenge.” These designers have stepped up to the challenge of using paint in creative ways, can you?
This accent wall looks like something out of Rainforest Cafe which instantly makes me happy. Who could have a bad day and not feel reenergized just by entering this space?
That wall literally makes the room! With its differing shades of gray I feel like something is getting ready to come out of that fog. Ok that just got a little creepy….
In one of my favorite spaces of all time on HGTV, these walls prove you can never go wrong with the quintessential stripe.
How about some black and white to add visual interest to this kitchen? You don’t have to be a faux paint artist to recreate this look in your home.
Have you created any designs with paint that can rival these spaces? If you have, please send us a pic and we will include in a future post. Crazy Pants Paint Challenge – ready, set, go!
