I thought this might be a fun topic so please read this over a few glasses of wine. One trait I have noticed in most interior designers is that they collect. In fact I have met some that are borderline hoarders. This I always find amusing because I always grew up with the idea that cluster just was not pretty. I love to keep my rooms simple and sleek without a myriad of items cluttering the room. So I created a few tips to help people know if they have a problem.
Has your bathroom become more of a storage closet?
Are you storing your second Statue of David in the bathroom because you just have no idea where else to put it? This might be a sign that the items might not really be that important to you. Try selling them or donating it because sharing is always good.
Are you afraid that you might end up sleeping in the guest room if you buy another must have item for your home?
Always consult your partner before buying anything. Purchases that involve both parties tend not to end up in divorce court. Also later on you can blame the other person for that hideous couch you found on eBay!
Do people walk on eggshells then they are visiting?
This usually means that you home is more of a minefield not a warm inviting place. Even if you can afford to have the most amazing objects don’t cram them al together in one spot. If a museum doesn’t do it what excuse do you have.
Do you contemplate buying a bigger house or a second home just to store your collection?
If you are at this stage them this article just might be not be enough to help you. I advise renting or buying Lord of the Rings and watching a certain character say the word “My Precious”. Then stand up and look in the mirror….enough said.
Do you look around your home and wonder…What the heck is the theme?
This is the last and one of the funniest stages. I have entered into various rooms and thought that this was clearly a choose your own adventure book. Basically that someone might need an interior designer even if they are an interior designer.
If this article did not make you laugh or smile my friend then you need another glass of wine.
