Interior designers are like Walt Disney World; they think of everything! Just when you thought you had worked on every part of your home, we think of something new to add to the mix. In today’s blog, it’s doors.
Doors? Yes doors. At High Point Market this year, one particular door stopped me dead in my tracks. While entering Wesley Hall, I noticed this door beckoning me to come in and explore the beauty beyond it. That stunning door was a portal to all the goodies I would see on the other side.
Break Away From the Pack
You may be thinking a door is a door is a door. Like they say in the South, no ma’am! Doors can be blah or yah! In fact, doors are a great way to break away from the pack and introduce a unique feature in your home.
Take one look at this circle embedded door by Metrie. Not only is the architecture of it captivating, that rich Tiffany Blue color has to make you ooh and ahh even if you don’t want to.
If you are a minimalist at heart and prefer linear shapes, Masonite doors at Metrie may be more up your alley. These multi-paneled doors are a work of art if I may say so myself.
Scouting for Salvaged Doors
Purchasing salvaged doors is a great way to do earthly good, while upping the ante at home. This is especially true if you have more of a rustic, vintage or Boho aesthetic. The only downside is that these doors often need retro-fitting or they are simply too small for the doorways of today. Still, if you are a historic preservation buff, finding a carpenter who can make these doors work will be well worth it.
Make a Bold Impact with Color
If you are on your calculator right now calculating just how many doors you have to change out and you’re on the verge of having heart palpitations, I have another proposition for you. Even if you can’t swing those jaw-dropping circular doors at Metrie, you can simply upgrade your current doors with paint.
Charcoal gray, navy and black doors are trending almost as much as Jay-Z’s new 4:44 album. The best part about these dark colors is that they go really well with white molding and they hide dirt. That’s a total win-win in my book!
Doors have significance in life and in design. Thinking of ways to make this a more prominent feature in our homes is a perfect way to add value without spending an arm and a leg.
