Today we get to interview Suzanne Kasler right after she was honored by being named to the Architectural Digest’s AD100 for 2017. I actually was lucky to have done this interview before I talked to Santa. I asked for both her design books “Inspired Interiors” and “Timeless Style”. I even added that a sneak peak into her 2018 book for my 2018 list! Santa is going to have a heavy bag when he comes to my house.
I love Suzanne because of how she embraces glamour into her designs. Also her linen collection is my favorite and I always recommend it. This Georgia based designer was just honored by being named to Architectural Digest’s AD100. Did I mention she has the most amazing and beautiful home in Tennessee? For a quick peek take a look at her home Black Berry Farm. This article could have been written solely on this spectacular property. So enough of me and I hope you enjoy this interview with beautiful and talented Suzanne Kasler!
What does getting on the AD100 mean to you?
Being a part of the AD100 is always the most special honor…to be included along with the most talented and influential architects and designers around the world…truly is the most amazing and humbling feeling and experience. It is also so rewarding to have your creativity and work so publically recognized and appreciated…
How important is glamour to your design?
I love glamour, but I also love understated glamour…so I would say it is important, but editing is also important…it also has to be right for the client. If the client wants a minimalist chic home, you can still make it glamorous but only with the right editing…
What design book(s) do you have on your book shelf?
I have a large collection of design books…ones I always look to are John Saladino, Christian Liaigre, Axel Vervoordt…and of course my own Inspired Interiors and Timeless Style. We have another book coming out in 2018, we haven’t decided on the title yet but the focus will be on homes by the water.
If you had three magazines to take on a trip which would they be?
Architectural Digest, World of Interiors and Cabana.
What is a design motto you and your firm live by?
If you get the architecture right, you can do less decorating.
What is your first step with a new client?
After the contract has been signed the first step is always an initial working meeting… only when the architecture is right can we start creating a furniture plan and developing schemes…we will review the plan and make any architectural changes that need to be made and draw a furniture plan focusing on how the house will flow and live.
Describe the art of collecting in reference to interior design?
Collecting is about making a home personal and reflecting who lives there…
How important is eco-friendly to you?
In recent years, our clients have become much more aware of being eco-friendly and often ask for paints and materials that are natural and non-toxic…
What trend so you see happening in 2017 for interior design, product design and hospitality design?
I see design trends focusing on being more edited and a greater appreciation for modern mixed in…
